Naugatuck, the first rubber town in America
Naugatuck grew from a 1701 farming settlement called Judd's Meadows into Salem Bridge before Charles Goodyear's 1843 vulcanized-rubber factory made the newly incorporated 1844 town the self-proclaimed first rubber town in America, later headquarters of the United States Rubber Company. A plumbing project in one of Naugatuck's 1840s rubber-boom homes should expect systems added in stages since that industrial-era construction.
